This is one of the most popular hikes in the Cordillera Blanca. You will be able to observe spectacular mountains and lakes with beautiful views and colors. From the trailhead, there are stunning views of the Artesonraju, Rinrijirca, and Alpamayo mountains. On the way to Vaquería we will pass through the famous sister lakes of Llanganuco, and when we cross the Portachuelo Pass, we will see the imposing Huascarán (the highest mountain in Peru) and the four peaks of Huandoy, Pisco, Chacraraju and Chopicalqui. Upon reaching the highest point of the hike, Punta Unión (4,750 m), the reward will be a spectacular view of the Taulliraju mountain.

TOUR DETAILS

Day 0: LIMA - HUARAZ

This morning we depart Lima by bus for an eight-hour journey to the climbing centre of Huaraz.

Reception and transfer to hotel. Stay overnight.

Day 1 HUARAZ / LLANGANUCO / PORTACHUELO / VAQUERIA / HUARIPAMPA.

Breakfast. Departure from Huaraz heading north, through the Callejon de Huaylas.

We begin our climb toward the Cordillera Blanca, until reaching the Laguna de Llanganuco and appreciate snow peaks such as: Huascaran ( 6, 768 mts), Huandoy (6, 395 mts), and Yanapacha (5, 460 mts) among others. Immmediately after we start our journey at Vaqueria and we enter the Quebrada de Huaripampa, where we set first camp at 3, 600 meters above sea level.

Day 2 HUARIPAMPA / PUNTA UNION / TUALLIPAMPA.

Breakfast. At the agreed time we continue our journey by the Quebrada de Huaripampa appreciating in full magnitud the beauty of flora of the Cordillera Blanca, including : The Quienuales forrests, its praries, etc… We continue the trekking, climbing up to the Punta Union point, from where we will enjoy a fabulous view of the Quebrada Santa Cruz and the Taulliraju, Ranrahirca, Quitaraju, Artesonraju snow peaks among others decorated by the beautiful lakes in the surroundings. Later we will go deep into the Taullipampa plains. Our second  campsite is located here.

Day 3 TAULLIPAMPA / VIEWPOINT OF ALPAMAYO / JATUNCOCHA / LLAMACORRAL

Breakfast. At the correct hour we begin our excursion to the Quebrada de Jatuncocha, where we will appreciate the most beautiful mountain in the world: The Alpamayo at 5, 947 meters above sea level. We ‘ ll also visit the base for the Andean explorers that climb these snow peaks, to later return to our camp and continue our stroll through the Quebrada de Santa Cruz, passing by the Jatuncocha Lake, until reaching LLAMACORRAL where will set our third campsite.

Day 4 LLAMACORRAL / CASHAPAMPA / CARAZ

Breakfast. IN the morning we continue our descend along the Quebrada de Santa Cruz and we’ll appreciate some water falls of special beauty originated by the glacial melting of the snow peaks. We conclude our trekking at the village of Cashapampa, where we will board the transportation with destination, Caraz. Stay overnight in the hotel.  (If you want you can sleep in Huaraz)

Transfer to bus station to return to Lima.

Equipment Needed

  • Medium backpack, sleeping bag, rain clothes (raincoats, rain poncho)
  • Towel and swinwear
  • Flashlight, spare batteries and water bottle
  • Medicines for personal use
  • Shoes with rubber sole
  • A complete change of clothes. It is important to have dry t-shirts, a thick coat to keep warm at night and several pairs

of socks because the feet should be dry at night. Hat for the sun, scarf and gloves.

NOTES:

1- PASSPORTS, VISAS & RECIPROCITY FEES

Passengers are responsible for having a valid passport (valid at least 6months before travel) and any visas required.

Peru may require visa for some nationalities. Please note that some countries require a reciprocity entrance fee.

The CHD rate applies for children from 2 to 10 years traveling accompanied by two adults and sharing a bed with them. Maximum 1 child is allowed with CHD rate per room. If you require additional bed you must pay an extra cost.
