It was 1987, when the tomb of the most famous of all of them was found, that of the Lord of Sipán, now it’s one of the main attractions of this place due to its importance and the excellent state of conservation in which it was found. Along with this, samples of goldsmithing were found (especially funerary masks), and numerous pieces that covered his skeleton, such as the breastplate, the bracelets, the command sceptre, as well as the gold clothing and jewellery, signs of the Moche grandeur and nobility.
Its ornaments and the high degree of development in goldsmith work make it considered the most important archaeological discovery of the century. During the tour we will also visit the Site Museum, built in a place where excavations and explorations were also carried out, finding tombs and other minor finds.
Then we will go to the Brüning National Archaeological Museum, located in Lambayeque, 11.5 kilometres from the city of Chiclayo. The museum was inaugurated in 1966, as a result of the 48-year research by Enrique Brüning. Inside the main building there is a sequence of 4 levels between its halls and rooms, where more than 11,000 archaeological pieces are exhibited, including ceremonial objects, ceramics and precious metals from the Lambayeque, Moche, Chavin, Vicus, and Inca cultures. In its gardens, the figure of Naylamp, founder of the dynasty of the Lambayecan Kings, stands out. Return to the hotel. Overnight in Chiclayo. (B.)
Breakfast at your hotel. Early, we will begin our visit the Túcume Complex, capital of the Lambayeque kingdom, located 33 km northeast from the city of Chiclayo, and which is also known as the Valley of the Pyramids because it has 26 of these constructions, located throughout Leche River Valley.
Túcume is a mystical place, where the monumental of its architectural manifestations is confused with the customs of its people. Due to their size and the quality of their constructions, Túcume pyramids constitute one of the main monumental centres of the Region.
The mystery this fascinating place holds is because of the legend of the Mochicas, who said that the great King Naylamp accompanied by his wife Ceterni, came from the sea with great knowledge and tools to contribute to the art and instruments that were used to build the legacies that we know today.
Likewise, there is the belief that each step of the access stairs of the Túcume pyramids could represent the periods of development of human life, so that the arrival at the top of the building was symbolic, since it represented the acquisition of a supreme spirit.
The remains found show that it was a maritime culture which was essential and that commercial exchanges were carried out with other cultures on the continent. Likewise, it is also believed that this was one of the cultures that could have dominated the knowledge of marine currents and who achieved exchanges with Polynesia. Return to the hotel. Once we finish, we will transfer you to the airport or bus terminal to continue with your itinerary. (B.)
