TOUR DETAILS
Day 1: ……..CHACHAPOYAS
Upon arrival at destination, reception and transfer to the selected hotel.
City Tour where we will visit the Main Square, the Small Square of Independence and the Yanayacu Well (according to the legend, it was in this place where Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo brought forth water from a rock putting an end to the drought that was devastating the region). We will also visit the grotto of Santa Lucia and the orchid nursery of Santa Isabel.
Day 2: REVASH – LEYMEBAMBA
Breakfast at the hotel.
Today we will make an interesting excursion to admire the funerary monuments of Revash that are placed top of a mountain.
Then, we will travel to Leymebamba to visit the Leymebamba Museum or “Mallaqui Center Museum” that saves a valuable collection of more than 250 mummies that were found at the Lagoon of the Condors. At the end of the day, we will return and rest at the hotel.
Day 3: KUELAP FORTRESS
Breakfast at the hotel.
Departure to the gigantic fortress of Kuelap, placed 3.000 m.a.s.l at the top of a rocky mountain. At the base of the mountain, we will see the Utcubamba River flow through a deep and narrow valley of warm weather.
Kuelap was discovered in 1843 by Doctor Juan Crisóstomo Nieto. It is a unique fortress in the world and the actual dimensions that it could have reached are still unknown.
The perfect organization of the Chachapoyas was able to raise the 10.000 Mtons of stunning mass of carved rock.
The shape is of an elongated ellipse, oriented North to South and facing East.
Kuelap is built over the top of a hill and its slopes are steep and inaccessible. It stands over a 500 meters high cut steeply ravine. For this reason, defenders only had to worry about protecting the main entrance, making it very easy to control entry.
As it can be noticed, the characteristics of the fortress indicate that it was not just a housing complex but also a fortified refuge that was probalby used as a place of extreme defense.
Day 4: CHACHAPOYAS………
Free morning for personal activities.
Departure to Chiclayo – Cajamarca or Lima.
