Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting for you at the airport to transfer you to your selected hotel. For this day, you can choose between two options: Walking tour of the city or a visit to the famous Cusco Planetarium. Overnight in Cusco.    (B.)

WALKING TOUR

At 15:00 horas, we will pick you up from your hotel to transfer you to the Temple of the Sun, also known as Qoricancha, which in the Quechua language means “Golden Enclosure”, and where its splendour can still be felt between walls that once were completely covered in gold. The Qoricancha was a sacred place where the main Inca god was worshiped: El Inti or Sun God. Next, we will continue the tour on foot, heading to the archaeological complex of Kusicancha, which reveals the foundations of eight Inca architectural complexes in different states of conservation. It is presumed that objects for ritual use were made here, such as ceramics and textiles, as well as drinks and food for the ceremonies of the Inca main temple. Twelve graves with intact grave goods were also found in Kusicancha.

We will continue the tour through Loreto Street, known for the beautiful Inca walls, until we reach the Main Square of Cusco, where we can appreciate its beautiful architectural design adorned with arches and crowned with the impressive Cathedral which has colonial constructions of Great value.

After listening to a brief review about the history of the main square, we will visit the cathedral, a colonial Renaissance structure built on The Inca foundations of what it once was the “Suntur Wasi, Palacio del Inca Wiracocha.

To finalize the tour, we will invite you to continue walking through the cobbled streets of the historic centre until we reach San Blas, the neighbourhood of Cusco artisans, where we can visit some of the most recognized galleries in the city such as Hilario Mendivil, and then arrive to Hatun Rumiyoc street. In this street we will find the Inca Roca Palace, today known as the Archbishop’s Palace, which we will watch from the outside, to finally be able to admire the world-famous Stone of the Twelve Angles. From here, we will arrive again at the main square of Cusco, where the tour ends.

In the streets surrounding the Historic Centre, you will find excellent options to enjoy a delicious homemade dessert, a good coffee, a hot chocolate or a coca tea. You will also find a wide variety of bars and restaurants to please your wishes. The return to your hotel will be on your own.

PLANETARY OF CUSCO

At 17:30 hrs we will meet at Plaza Regocijo to move it to the planetarium of Cusco, where we will have a brief talk about the Andean cosmovision in the interpretation rooms, where we will also learn to recognize the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere. We will learn about the Inca constellations, different from those of the western world and about the relationship of the Andean man with the cosmos. Finally, if the weather conditions allow, we can observe planets, stars and nebulae with planetary telescopes. At 19:40 hrs we will return to the city centre. The return to your hotel will be on your own.

Day 4 : VISIT TO THE SACRED INCA CITADEL OF MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO

Breakfast at the hotel.  At the agreed time transfer to the train station to begin the excursion to the Sacred Citadel of Machu Picchu, recognized as one of the wonders of the world and declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The train takes us to the town of Aguas Calientes and then upon arrival we will take the bus to go up to the Archaeological Center and then begin the guided tour that lasts approximately 2 hours. During the visit you can appreciate temples, squares, terraces, houses, barns, as well as the great biodiversity that exists in the surroundings. It is worth mentioning that because of where Machu Pichu is located its beauty is exalted. A National Reserve has been formed around the citadel that has an area of 32,500 hectares, and which includes a constellation of archaeological monuments, which, in our opinion, were built as part of the Machu Picchu complex and not in isolation. After our visit in the Archaeological Center, we will take the bus to go down and back to the town where you will enjoy a delicious meal. Finally, you will board the train back to the city of Cusco. Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting for you to transfer you to your hotel.     (B. L)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE NEW ENTRANCE REGULATIONS FOR MACHU PICCHU

Current restrictions on visits to Machu Picchu establish that, during the first entrance to the archaeological centre, the passenger must be accompanied by a guide and must follow one of the established circuits within the citadel. Guided tours last approximately 2 hours and the circuit is chosen according to the space’s availability at the moment of formally requesting the reservation.

If the passenger wishes to enter again in the afternoon shift or the next day to make a new visit, or if the passenger wants to make a visit to Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, it must previously request an additional entrance ticket. There is no sale of tickets at the archaeological site.

It is not possible to reserve entrance tickets. The only way to guarantee a place to visit Machu Picchu is buying the entrance ticket, and to do so, it is mandatory to provide updated personal information of each passenger coming to Peru (full name, date of birth, nationality, and passport or identity card number), which must match the identity document that passengers carry during the trip. This information is especially important for visits to places such as the Inca Trail or the Sacred Citadel of Machu Picchu (including Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain), where local authorities require the presentation of updated and original documentation at the entrance control.

Once the entrance ticket to Machu Picchu has been purchased, it is NON-refundable, NON-transferable and NON-modifiable due to the policies imposed by the authority that regulates the entrance to the archaeological centre.
