The Route of the Gods is an ancestral journey to the sacred lands of ancient Peru, following the trail of the constellation of the Southern Cross and evoking the eternal Andean gods, which are manifested through color, joy, spirituality and harmony. It is an itinerary with fixed departures and confirmed spaces, which allows the traveler to discover the most important attractions of the southern circuit of Peru. The program can be taken in its entirety or incorporated into any of the five points marked in the program, depending on the interest and possibilities of each one.

TOUR DETAILS:

Day 1: LIMA

Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting at the airport, ready to transfer you to the selected hotel. Free day.

Overnight in Lima

Day 2: LIMA – CITY TOUR

Breakfast at the hotel. At the coordinated time, we will transfer you to Lima’s Historic Downtown in a private guided tour to the most important sites of Lima. We visit the Monumental Center, well known for its colonial architecture, traditional balconies and colonial mansions. The Mayor Plaza is located there and it is surrounded by the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace and Municipality of Lima. Then, we will visit the Convent of San Francisco, where you can see cloisters and catacombs from the Colonial era. The tour continues through the traditional, residential and commercial areas of Lima and it ends with a spectacular panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and the beaches of Miraflores. Overnight in Lima.

Day 3: LIMA / PARACAS

Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer to the bus station to travel to Paracas (3.30hs. trip).

Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel.  Overnight in Paracas

Day 4: TOUR BALLESTAS ISLANDS / ICA - VISITA AL OASIS DE LA HUACACHINA /

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, we will transfer you to the Paracas port to board a boat in which we will initiate our deep sea journey at the coordinated time, headed to the Ballestas Islands. In said journey, we will be able to appreciate the gigantic Chandelier drawn of a hillside facing the sea, while our guide tells stories about  the different theories about its enigmatic design. Upon arriving we will observe the local marine fauna in their natural habitat, among them, the Humbolt penguins, sea wolves, seagulls, piqueros, zarcillos, pelicans, etc (some of them are rare, endangered species).

In the afternoon transfer to Nasca  visiting on the way the amazing desert oasis called Huacachina. Huacachina is one of the last oasis in North and South America and it is located in the middle of the sands of Ica desert. In this beautiful lagoon, visitors can enjoy the tranquillity of the place and walk around looking for good photo scenarios. (The huge sand dunes that surround Huacachina allow visitors to practice Sandboarding or riding in a dune Buggy in order to explore the desert on an exciting way,  by adding the corresponding costs.)

Reception in Nasca and transfer to the hotel.

Day 5: NASCA / AREQUIPA

Optional:  With an additional payment you can hire the overflight of the Nasca lines.  Transfer to the airfield. We will wait our turn for the aircraft, then initiate a magnificent overflight to the Nasca Lines during approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes, time in which we will observe the gigantic zoomorphic and geometrical figures, created over the desert sands, in the plains of San Jose of Nasca. It is believed that these lines represented a massive astronomical calendar, related to agriculture, or served as a map for navigation, maybe even an alien starport.

After the overflight, you can create your own conclusions.

Trip to Arequipa by bus in the afternoon.  Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel.

Day 6: AREQUIPA - CITY TOUR - MONATERY SANTA CATHERINE (LIMA / AREQUIPA)

Breakfast at the hotel.  Free morning.

The White City opens up its doors in a tour that begins in the Carmen Alto viewpoint from where we will be able to admire the beautiful landscape of farming terraces and the three guardian volcanoes that surround the city: Misti, Chachani and Pichu Picchu. We will then continue to the colonial district of Yanahuara, famous for its church built in Andalusia style, and its viewpoint with is gorgeous architecture surrounded by sillar stone arches. We will then visit the Monastery of Saint Catherine, an impressive religious monument that had been closed to the public for nearly 400 years; its narrow streets, plazas and gardens reminds us of the ancient districts of Seville or Granada. Finally, we will head for the Main Square, where we will be able to see the Cathedral and the arches that surround the plaza, and then visit the Church of the Company of Jesus founded in the 17th century by the Jesuits, and which stands out for its cloisters and the famous Saint Ignacio Dome.

Day 7: AREQUIPA – EXCURSION TO THE SCENIC OVERVIEW OF THE VOLCANO

Breakfast at the hotel.

Early departure to the Colca Valley behind the snowy peak of Chachani, pampa Cañahuas, a vicuñas national reserve in the wild state of Aguada Blanca, in the area you can observe altiplanic landscapes, small lagoons and great diversity of birds and Vizcachas (wild, tailed rabbits). Continuing along the route you will appreciate Volcanoes viewpoint, maximum altitude of 4,800 meters. On the route you can see the snowy mountain of Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca Hualca, etc.). Viewpoint of the Colca Valley. At 12:30 approx. We enter the majesty of the Colca Canyon, to reach Chivay.

Transfer to hotel in the immediate vicinity of the Canyon. Afternoon free to visit the hot springs or rest.

Day 8: COLCA / PUNO (LIMA / JULIACA)

Breakfast at the hotel.

Early, we will go to the Cruz del Condor Viewpoint, here you can observe part of the depth of the Canyon, which is approximately 1,200 meters deep. With some luck, we might appreciate the majestic Flight of the Condor. During this tour we will observe the typical villages of Yanque, Maca, and their settlers with their beautiful costumes typical of each locality. We can appreciate an impressive amount of pre-Inca agricultural platforms that are still cultivated with Andean products such as Potatoes, Corn, Quinoa, Kiwicha, Olluco, etc.

Departure by bus to Puno in the afternoon. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel.

Day 9: TITICACA LAKE - UROS FLOATING ISLAND AND TAQUILE ISLAND.

The tour begins with the transfer to the Titicaca Lake pier to board a boat in which we will sail to the island of Taquile, located on Lake TITICACA, the highest navigable lake in the world.

This journey by the lake lasts approximately 02.30 hrs. The Titicaca is known by the Andean people as the MAMACOCHA (Mother Lake). Arriving in Taquile, a place of spectacular beauty, we will find highland descendants who maintain ancestral customs, and where we can share some experiences with, while we travelling through part of their territory. We will make direct contact with them to appreciate their customs, observe and optionally buy their handmade products. It should be noted that Taquile was declared as “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO in 2005. We will have time to enjoy the landscape.

After lunch we will start the return to the city of Puno, on the way we will visit the Floating Islands of the Uros. The Islands are manufactured by its inhabitants who weave artificial floors with the totora (Reeds that grow in place) place them superimposedly and skillfully interweave them to float on Lake Titicaca. The islands are of various sizes, with small and / or numerous families living in them. These families live from fishing, gathering and selling handicrafts to visitors. During this tour you will see and listen about the legends of the Uros, their uses, customs, and folklore.

Day 10: PUNO / CUSCO (LIMA/CUSCO)

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the bus station to take a bus with destination to the city of Cusco. On the way we will visit the Pucará site museum, we will then do a brief stop in “La Raya”, the highest point in the route (4335 m.a.s.l)., visiting the archeological center of Raqchi (one of the main temples of the god Wiracocha), another stop in Sicuani to enjoy a nice buffet lunch. Finally, upon arrival to Cusco we will visit Andayhuayllas, known as the Sistine Chapel of South America. Arriving in the city of Cusco, our staff will be waiting for you to transfer you to the hotel.

Day 11: CUSCO - CITY TOUR + NEARBY RUINS

Breakfast at the hotel. At 13.30 hrs. we will begin our city tour visiting the Plaza de Armas, Temple of Sun, known as Q’oricancha and the Cathedral of Cusco, where we can observe beautiful paintings and sculptures. Likewise we will visit the surrounding archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, a multipurpose place where people used to worship the Sun, Moon and Earth. Q’enco, a cult center related to the fire element. Puca Pucara, which was used as a storage facility and control post, in which natives celebrated ceremonies to the wind and Tambomachay, cult center related to the element of water and fertility. Return to your hotel.

Day 12: SACRED VALLEY EXCURSION / MACHU PICCHU ( AGUAS CALIENTES TWON )

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will visit the beautiful village of Pisac, its traditional market, the popular trade fair and its narrow streets). We will continue the tour through the Sacred Valley of Urubamba, where you can enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. Then we will visit Ollantaytambo, a still inhabited Inca City that preserves a complex system of irrigation Canals and foundations of the time when much of the village was built. The archaeological site of Ollantaytambo has large groups of terraces, fortresses, squares, canals and the Sun Royal House, a megalithic temple of great mystical value.

After tour transfer to the train station to begin the excursion to the Sacred City of Machu Picchu declared by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage for Humanity and chosen as one of the new seven wonders of the world.

Overnight in Aguas Calientes town.

Day 13: MACHU PICCHU

Breakfast at the hotel. Excursion to the Sacred City of Machu Picchu. Once we reach the archaeological site we will begin a guided tour around the citadel that will last about 2 hours. During the tour you will find temples, palaces, squares and streets of military and agricultural areas. The beauty of Machu Picchu is exalted by the extraordinary scenery where it is located. Around the citadel, the National Reserve covers an area of 32.500 hectares and includes a constellation of archaeological monuments which we believe that were built as part of the complex of Machu Picchu and not in an isolation way.

Free time to enjoy the archaeological site. At the arranged time with the guide, we will descend to Aguas Calientes town, where we will have included the lunch.

Return to Cusco. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to your hotel. Overnight.

Day 14: CUSCO - FREE DAY

Breakfast at the hotel. Free day.

The option you choose for today is not included in the itinerary provided by Peru A Travel. Overnight in Cusco.

Day 15: CUSCO / PUERTO MALDONADO ( JUNGLE LODGE) (CUSCO/LIMA)

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning transfer to the airport to board the flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport by your naturalist guide and transferred to a dugout canoe for the trip up the lodge. On the journey the vegetation changes from colonized deforested areas to virgin rainforest. On arrival you’ll have a welcome drink and meet the rest of the staff. In the late afternoon you set off for an introductory walk into the “terra firma” forest behind the lodge Frequently seen mammals on this trail are Saddle-back, Brown Capuchins, Agoutis, Pacas, Blue-Morpho butterflies, Trogons, Toucans and many other species of birds. After dinner a night walk to find nocturnal animals or insects by their eye-shine, a specialization for increasing light and seeing better. About 50% of the animals are nocturnal in the rainforest. Lunch included.

Day 16: TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE

After an early breakfast you and your nature guide will board the motorized canoe once again for the short journey to the trail head to begin a morning’s exploration by foot and paddle canoe of the lake in the jungle, rich in bird and aquatic life. A family of giant otters lives in the vicinity of the lake and are often observed. Birds abound especially Rufescent Tiger-herons, Great Egrets, Wattled Jacanas, Hoatzin, the noisy and many others. Remember to bring your hat and sun cream for there is no shade out on the water. You will return to the lodge in time for lunch.

The afternoon is for exploring the forest close to the lodge (with or without your guide. After dark you will go searching for caiman (alligators) and other nocturnal animals by motorized canoe along the Tambopata River. Dinner.

Day 17: PUERTO MALADONADO / LIMA

Breakfast at the lodge. Transfer to the city by boat to go to the airport and board the flight back to Lima.

Peru may require visa for some nationalities. Please note that some countries require a reciprocity entrance fee.
